Wetin Dey?

I spent some time with folks at Radio Continental 102.3 FM. For those that didn't know, RC 102.3FM is Nigeria's #1 controversial radio station, under the parent company CBS—Continental Broadcasting Service (more on that here). I was privileged to be part of Wetin Dey, a rush hour talkshow about Nigeria's state of affairs discussed with local humor. Topics ranged from Nigeria's current fuel scarcity to discussions on love, relationships—heavily on deck, same sex relationships. Folks, this is not at all boring, run-the-mill show here, this is some folks entertaining the masses and having a good time doing it too. There's no dull moment as Sisi Caretaker and the rest of her crew captivated the audience in their different personas, special guests are featured, the audience listening got to chip in too! You've got to listen in sometime. As a special guest I pulled some tricks. I didn't realize there's enough Pidgin English still left in me, flirting all afternoon with Wale, all in good fun. As I continue to wet my feet in the entertainment world, I realize I'm most definitely in my element.

The crew: Wale, Sisi, Iya and Obus
A special thank you to my sista' from another mother Sisi Caretaker, Wale Popopo, Iya Jogbo and Obus Zalee for sharing their platform with me. Tune in to RC 102.3 FM, weekdays from 2-4pm WAST for the latest trending and controversial topics on air with a playful spin. RC 102.3FM is on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook @rc1023fm.

Guinness Live it Up Tour

Last Saturday was Guinness Live it Up tour in Houston Texas at 1940 Air Terminal Hanger, Hobby airport. This free annual concert goes on in different states throughout the country for the 21+ crowd. Expectations would be appetite for Caribbean food and some good music (and probably some Guinness stout). This event was particularly timely as I can no longer remember the last time I was at a festival. As I made my way to this venue, I didn't know what to expect, but one thing was sure, I thought wait, this is happening...at the airport? They couldn't have chosen a scene more perfect, the backdrop definitely set the tone for the night ahead, what's better than being in the middle of a rave while watching planes take off? The place can be likened to an airline museum of sorts, I enjoyed exploring the exotic planes that laid around the hanger.

Evolution of Iro and Buba - AFWN

AFWN's goal is to showcase Nigeria's heritage through fashion. This year, we take a step back to fashionistas of our past to get a glimpse of how they lived. Through the years styles evolve but kinda remain the same (sort of).  Let's just say we get our stylish gene from somewhere (wink!) AFWN will put up an exhibition on May 24th, Gala night that consists of images of fashionistas' best expression in Iro and Buba. Competition starts now, read on for a chance to enter.

Please don't shoot me, yes I'm Black!

Officer Slager over Walter Scott, credit: NY Times
I'm not one to jump on the race card bandwagon. Matter of fact I believe Blacks in America choose to continue to enslave themselves after 150 years of the 13th amendment. But one can agree that America has a long way to go when it comes to race relations in its country. Recent events do not necessarily scream racism or prejudice, but all one has to do is look at the record of recent and unprecedented events. A common thread remains—an unarmed Black man dies in the hands of a White police officer—sworn to duty to protect citizens of it's jurisdiction. Question is why does this continue to happen? Is there an end in sight?
